With less than a 1% positivity rate recorded in the nation’s capital till last week, Delhi saw an incline of 2.7% in the Covid curve on Monday. 137 cases were reported out of 5,079 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The doctors explained that the rise in Covid 19 cases is not a major concern as long as it doesn’t cause a major hike in hospitalization.

According to the data shared by the Delhi government, only 47 beds out of a total of 9,745 beds are currently occupied. Delhi has recorded 601 active cases of Covid 19 as of now with 447 in home isolation. Officials stated that they have seen 2-3 cases of Covid 19 the previous week, but all the patients had mild symptoms. The third wave was mainly caused by two subtypes BA.1 and BA.2 variants of the Omicron variant. Recently, XE a recombinant variant that has characteristics of two subtypes was detected with no confirmed cases from Delhi reported yet.

From Sunday, the central government has allowed the administration of the third dose for all fully vaccinated individuals who took their second dose nine months ago. Dr. Rommel Tickoo, Director, Max Saket stated that “the efficacy of the vaccine against re-infection reduces after six months. So, it is advisable to take the third dosage for all the eligible individuals.” (Source: https://health.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/industry/3-times-rise-in-delhis-covid-positivity-rate-hospitalisations-low/90788799)
